Should I Pay Out Myself or Insurance?
I feel like such an idiot.
I have scraped a cars bumper at work reversing out of a parking space.
It was dark and couldn't see damage as it was dark.
There is a 3 cm scratch on my car.
The other driver got cross and said he will deal with me tomorrow.
I have only been driving 3 years and wonder what I should do and worry about the impact on my next renewal.
Should I pay up front for the work (which the car owner says will cost hundreds) or should i go through the insurance company?
Also will I have to pay the excess fee?
Thanks in advance.

Let the insurance deal, that's partly what your premium is for.
You can offer to re-imburse your insurance company if the price is within your budget. I read here that excess is only paid if you have your own car repaired.0 -
The other driver sounds threatening the way you've put it, so i'd leave them to your insurance to deal with.
Would sort my own damage out though, hopefully that should leave your excess unaffected.0 -
Even a minor scratch can be expensive to repair.
Naturally he was upset. He may be prepared to negotiate today? If not give him your insurance details.

Over a small scratch I'd be looking at a private settlement. You'll lose a couple years ncb whichll cost you dearly over 5yrs0

He will hopefully have calmed down by this morning, have a chat with hem then and see what he proposes.
I would be looking to make a modest payment to avoid the insurer if I were you.0
