I think Natwest missold me an account and are now crippling me with debt.

4 years ago, I got a decented sized amount of money from an aunt who died. I had been on benefits a I suffered from mental illness. I stopped my benefit as this money was over the minimum limit and when I desposited this money, my bank manger presuaded me to sign up for a gold account even though this wwas a one of payment telling me I would get insurance and benefits.
Years later, the money naturally ran out and before I have had a chance to start claiming again, the bank took me into an unarranged over draft with the gold account fee and what was a £15 fee turned into charges over £200. I rang them in tears and asked them how can they charge this but they were unsympathetic.
I borrowed the money off my father to pay and asked the bank to return my account to a normal current account as none of the benefits ever suited my circumstances and I can't afford £15 a month. Imagine my suprise to find they took me yet again into the overdraft with another gold charge and are now asking for nearly £300. They are denying any contact from me and the woman I spoke to even went as far to suggest I must has put myself into the overdraft by using the account, even though my statement clearly shows I haven't. I refused to pay. This is unfair and wrong and I want to know what my rights are. Can someone please help?

Did it ever cross your mind to:
1. Read your bank statements?
2. Cancel the Gold benefits?
Did you ever use the benefits / insurances?
Complain to the bank's central complaints team. Ask for account fees, overdraft charges etc to be refunded. You might get lucky.0 -
1. The charges were revealed in the latest statement. This sudden massive charge has taken place within four to six weeks.
2. I did cancel the gold account after I paid the first one so there is no reason why they should be taking money.
Also no, I never used the services. I don't have a car, I don't travel... I explained all this when the manager was trying to sell it but he insisted I would benefit for a higher rate of interest with it plus it would be useful to have in case.0 -
