Hi,
We have just got a juicer because OH is determined to get healthier in 2015. Since he doesn't eat as much fruit and veg as me it seemed a good idea.
I thought it would be a good way of using up any excess fruit and veg before it spoils as well as gaining more nutrients.
What do's and don'ts tips do you have to share ?
and
What are your favourite recipes and combinations ?
Thanks
M

beetroot goes really well in juice, with some apple and ginger for example.0

Thanks puppey:)
I'd hoped people would share their favourite recipes, but interest seems low on this board.
Sometimes I buy lots of fruit and veg with good intentions and then have neither the appetite or energy due to health to cook or prepare it. A juicer was suggested by my OH and I found a good deal and got one. This way we are more likely to consume rather than waste stuff and improve our health too.
We've experimented with apples, oranges, carrots, beetroot, lemons, kiwis and ginger. So far our favourite is,
2 apples
1 small piece of ginger
1/4 to 1/3 of an unwaxed lemon (depending on size and taste)
Tastes amazing like sherbet lemon, great poured over ice. Going to get some vodka and cava for Christmas and try mixing it:D
Would still like to hear of other peoples favourites though and if anyone uses the pulp rather than binning it.0 -

You might find this is why interest is relatively low on the OS board - if you eat the fruit and veg rather than juicing it, you're eating the flesh not wasting it by putting in the bin, and getting far more nutrients than you will if you just drink the juice.
Buying smaller quantities of fruit and veg at a time so that it doesn't spoil before you get round to eating it (or meal plan so that you know it'll be used) is by far the best way to eat healthier and save money.
Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear, but it is based on experience.0
