Hi All
I remember about 2 years ago i recieved a some very helpful suggestion on what car i should get for a first car, I ended up with a toyota yaris 1.3 Auto which was my first car.
Although not the best to look at and apart from being the victim of someone keying the car, it has been really reliable and pass mots no problem. and revelative cheap on petrol.
Now I want to get a larger car with 5 doors and manual not automatic currently do approx 350 miles a week but that may increase soon as a job im a training for will involve visiting clients houses. so economical on petrol
I have about £2000 maybe a little more although car insurance is still pricey at £650 a year.
So if you can throw some suggestions towards me that would be great
things that jump to mind is a vauxhall astra, ford focus

Golf tdi is the default reply.
Passat would be better value and more comfortable. Is a nice place to be, I think the interior is much better than it's equivalents.
Something with the 1.9 tdi vag engine whatever you choose0 -
5 door Yaris 1.3 manual?0

I'd like to say yes
. I don't remember the 5-door being too bad for space. Depends on why the op wants bigger though.

All those miles a week in a yaris?
Get something bigger, smoother, quieter, pokier for that0 -
Thank you for replys i will check out the Golf and passat do you know how they petrol wise ?
And will have to carry some equipment in the back so need bigger boot than the yaris and being quite a large man 6'0 and 100kg want a bit more space although the yaris is much bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside.
''how do you fit in that'' was the common question
And no dont want another yaris0 -
Go VW if you can, good reliable cars, and cheap parts for servicing. If you can stretch to 3k you will get more for your buck, a newer car. Also if you are a big dude a saloon car is what you want!
Dont mean to offend any Vauxhall owners, but I hate most of their cars, they are so boring to me, the new Corsa is a bit better, but really dont like the likes of the astra etc.
A VW golf is common, but got so much more character. Worth considering a well looked after Passat or Bora also. And if you are doing a lot of motorway miles, get a diesel.
I wouldn't recommend a Ford Focus, my brother got his wife one and its been a bit of a headache, always an issue or two. He is very handy with working on cars and feels they are very awkward to work with as everything is so compact and its not the best build quality under the hood in his opinion.0 -

Don't you want a diesel for all those miles?
You wouldn't buy a petrol golf or Passat at this price as the diesel is so good.
Have a go in a pd 130 and see what you think, pretty pokey.
Passat has a big boot and folding rear seats.
I had 2k to spend, is best diesel engine for this price, and best mpg-torque ratio you will find too.
Nicest interior in my opinion too, in sport trim.0 -
