OS Daily Thread Wednesday 3rd December

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning all, boy is it cold this morning, brrrrr

Couldn't sleep so thought i would do something useful.
Cancelled my plans for today, supposed to collect Xmas pressies from a local seller. But instead I'm laid up after collapsing and falling on the stairs ouch OH had barred me from leaving the house.

So instead going to try and escape to a friend's house who who lives a few doors away. Fingers crossed OH stint find out.

But apart from that going to make corned beef stew tonight ready for when we get back. OH has almost finished the front room. He's ready to start painting the purple now I think.

If there's time tonight going to make Christmas decorations . ds2 is so excited and hyper, he's citing the days to go and pick the Christmas tree.

Off to make a cuppa :)

    Have a good day all

carolbee Oooh how exciting! You'll be growing anything and everything :D

I had a lie-in this morning, didn't wake up til 4.45am :D Hopefully this means my sleeping pattern is starting to get back to normal. I'm a bit fed up with feeling worn out by 5pm and it would be nice if I could remember things without having to write it all down.

Nice weather again yesterday, cold but sunny. I was in and out of the garden all day, raking, sweeping and sorting compost. Mr tru had dumped a load of stuff to rot next to the fence – that was supposed to be temporary when we were moving things around a couple of months ago, not sure why he's still using it? I'm slowly shifting it into the bins and tidying the veg patch too.

My kitchen looked like an office yesterday – paperwork everywhere, stapler, calculator and laptop on the table, folders on the worktops, shredder on the floor to my left, bin to the right :D All sorted, filed and put away now.

It's frosty today so no gardening for me, my hip doesn't like the cold. So just general housework this morning, with plenty of tea breaks :D After lunch I'll be crocheting small baubles. I want to make a special one for my Little Mate for his first Christmas so I'll have a play around with blue and white yarn and sparkly thread for him.

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Still dark here, but is damp and dreary. It’s turned much colder too but the days are dark and dreich.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 up and getting ready for work.

Dinner last night was bacon, mushroom and pea risotto – had actually bought paella rice not risotto when I got it out to start cooking, but it still tasted good – gave the menfolk breaded chicken pieces with theirs – as DH needs “meat” with his meals – I don’t know what heading the “bacon” that was in the risotto come’s under then?! I remembered to get the beef out to defrost so I’ll be getting that into the slow cooker shortly, so dinner tonight will be beef stew and dumplings, mash and veg. There’s quite a lot of meat so I’m going to make sure I get some hidden away for another meal, if the meat is tender enough I’ll use it as the basis to make a beef pie.

Work at the other office wasn’t horrendous – but that was just as well as we had major computer problems, we spent most of the day without the computer programmes we need to do our job, but kept getting it back intermittently, hoping today’s going to be better, it’s just so frustrating. Only working until lunchtime, then need to come home and get the normal jobs done and do some washing, as that seems to have built up. I have to go into work for a training session in the morning, so am not happy as they have changed the training day to my day off – so am not happy.

    Take care x

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone.

Bit chilly here and I have to go to Edinburgh on the train. Still, I'll squeeze in a visit to the Christmas market on the way back.

Woke at about 2.15 with an horrendous twitch in my lower calf/upper ankle which blooming went on for 3 hours. Took paracetamol and then eventually a cetrenazine to see if they would work...nope. So am pretty knackered. Mind you I did a load of online banking whilst awake.

Off to shower. And get a hot drink.

    Hope everyone is well.

Fish fed, hubby fed & dropped at work, I have a mouth like a badgers armpit as I've had no cuppa this morning, I have a fasting blood test at 8:20, I'm going into work first & then on to the Dr's.
Hugs to Lilly, LW, TTFM, Hilly, Molly & anyone else in need.
    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning All

Cold again but dry so far. Yesterday was lovely, sunshine all day. Washing dried on airers and finished in the drier, I had to strip the beds so that has created a huge pile of ordinary washing. Oh well, it will get done some time.

candlelight - Glad the screening was ok, hope the cataracts aren't too much bother.
jackieO - Good to hear you are re-gaining your shape!
carolbee - Congrats on the allotment!
Elona - So glad you all enjoyed the wedding, hope DH isn't too worn out.
Judi - Your mum looks cosy, how's the baby houses new resident?

Normal day at work I hope, may have a trip to Costc0 later if DD wants to meet me at work. Once I get home I find it hard to get moving again to go out.

Nothing exciting happening, hope you all have a good Wednesday. Take care. XX
  • :xmassmileGood morning all,

Cold her this morning but not frosty.

Thank youTru for the carol I so look forward to seeing it.

Elona I am pleased you all had a lovely weekend and the wedding went off without a hitch. I think your DH must be a very courageous man. To walk your DD down the aisle and then to make a speech later took some courage and stamina so soon after finishing treatment, you must be so proud of him. I hope he continues to improve and that you have a wonderful Christmas.

A dear friend of ours is having a bypass op today after suffering s heart attack so our thoughts will be with him and his wife today and will be relieved when it is all over.#

Have a good day everyone and stay warm

    Good morning everyone :santa2:

It's freezing cold here this morning and have just had my usual argument with the girls about wearing their coats. My youngest put hers on but the others just went in their uniforms. I despair sometimes.

I've taken a beef and ale casserole out of the freezer for tea and I will be practising my roast potatoes to go with it. I normally rely on frozen ones :o so I need to remind myself how much nicer home made ones are.

My friend is taking me out this afternoon to Dunelm mill as I need to replace a mixing bowl that arrived well packaged up but still smashed. It is part of a baking hamper present for another friend so I hope they have some more in stock. There is a Home Bargains just along from there too so I will grab the opportunity to have a nosey and maybe pick up a few stocking fillers.

I need to start writing my Christmas cards this morning so I will put on some Christmas music and make a cuppa and then get on with it. I've made all my cards this year so I hope everybody likes them. First of all I will be going to get dressed as it's freeezing!

Hope everyone manages to have a nice day whatever they are up to. Take care xx

    Hi everyone,

I'm tired today, we went to Heathrow to collect DS and GF after their trip to Vienna and it was after midnight when we got home. They had a lovely time though. We dropped off their cat on the way down, thankfully she was intact, I worry that something will happen to her while she's with us.

DD thinks they may have to postpone the wedding because her BF is having problems at work. It seems to be one of those places where everyone plots and makes plans on a secret basis and then it casts everything into chaos. DD is trying to persuade him it would be a good idea to start looking around for another position.

    Have a good day.
