The proper thing to do is tell the police within 24 hours or "as soon as is practicable". I've known people prosecuted for "not reporting an accident" for small scuff in a car park.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

By the time you've finished explaining you may have hit a car, may not, maybe in car park, maybe not, you'll either be sectioned or done for driving without due care and attention.....
Why would i be done for driving with out due care and attention ??
Ive a scuff mark on my car, which could have come from someone else or myself in a car park or someware else. And im letting police know that just in case anyone does contact them regarding a scuff on there car, and so that i have covered myself, and my consions be clear.
And if it comes out that i have and If rubbing / toutching another car in a crouded car park is driving with out due care and attention, then so be it...0 -

It's an offence under s170 road traffic act not to report the accident within 24 hours, so I would ring and tell them what you know. You can't be accused of not reporting it then. What will your verse be?

Hi OP.
Bought a T reg Toyota Avensis off Gumtree a few months ago for £280, (taxed and test, runs like a dream)
I regret to inform you that earlier today I also noticed a "smudge" on my bumper.
The only sensible conclusion I can make is that it was me you bumped in the car park
Want to call it £100 and we'll say no more?0 -
I've just been out for a drive and kerbed a wheel, I can only conclude I was distracted by laughing at this thread.
Shall we call it £65 for a refurb?0 -
Someone could have bumped into your car earlier and left the paint mark while you were away. If you had hit a parked car hard enough to transfer paint, I'm pretty sure you would have felt the bump.
However, you may have hit the other car. To be totally safe, call into the cop shop and let them know this might have happened. You have complied with the law, the police won't care, and that's the last you will hear of it. If the owner of the other car traces you, you'll have to deal with it, but legally you have done everything you should. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
