Second chance or offering to next bidder

I had 2 identical items but I listed only one to see if it sells. There was a bidding war towards the end of the auction.

I still have the 2nd item. Can I offer it to the 2nd bidder and how? It will only be less by a small amount which I don't mind.

Alternatively I could list the 2nd item today as I have plenty of the free listings left. If I did list, what price should I start at? The original low starting price or just below what the non winning bidder bid or half way?
Don't want to look too greedy!

You could message the second bidder and say you have a second item which you could list for them to BIN for their bid price and see what they say ?

No need to do that , there is a formal second chance offer facility on eBay.

OP I'd try a second chance offer first, maybe limit it to 3 days, and then just relist at a little below the end price of the first one.

Just click on "Send a second chance offer" in the menu item or on the sold listing page. You can specify how long you give them and it is basically a buy it now at the losing price that only they can see. I do it regularly and 50% of the time they take you up on the offer. If you are happy to sell it at the losing bid price then go for it. Far easier than having to relist and you know how much it'll sell for

Thank you soolin and mrcol1000. I did so the second chance offer for the losing bidder (for 3 days) but it showing as BIN listing for anyone to bid. Is that how it should be? The way I see it, anyone can buy it now not just the losing bidder.

The only person that can see it apart from you is the person you sent the second chance offer to.

Thank you alykatz. I didn't know that! I logged out and tried to search for that item and yes, it is not showing. Learnt something new today. Last time I tried to do second chance offer, the same thing had happened and I thought I had done something wrong. That explains it.
