Lease Extension Screw Up..

Hi

In 2011 we extended the lease on our flat as it only had 59 years remaining, costing 11k. Our intention was to extend the lease BY 90 years, however now that we have come to sell the flat we have taken another look at the lease and noticed that the extension was in fact a replacement lease TO 90 years, meaning the lease runs out in 2099 and leaving us with only 87 years left :(

I have dug all of the paperwork out from around the time of the extension and my letter to the freeholders and the response I received back clearly stated my intention to extend BY 90 years, however as the solicitors we used at the time have pointed out we also signed the agreement which stated the lease would run out in 2099.

Do we have a leg to stand on when trying to get this corrected even though we signed the paperwork? I feel we were either swindled by the solictors or they screwed up and mis-understood the agreement I had made with the freeholders.

We have had potential buyers express concern that there are only 87 years left on the lease, even though we only extended 3 years ago and in theory we should have well over 100 years remaining....
