West London Solicitors/ Surveyors

Hi all,
After many many months of looking at what feels like hundreds of properties, myself and my boyfriend have finally found somewhere and had an offer accepted. We did have an Agreement in Principle - sadly expired as the search has been so long, but expired less than 8 weeks ago and we are very luck to have a family friend with his own brokerage firm who is helping us on that front.
We now need to get a solicitor and a surveyor sorted ASAP as the vendor wants to move quickly (she had one sale Agreed back in April that fell through this October, and she's leaving the country). We are also keen to move quickly. I was just wondering, does anyone have any tips on solicitors or surveyors in the West London area? I'm gathering quotes and things but it's very difficult to tell them apart and to make a judgement call on who is reliable, etc.
Any advice or recommendations would be welcome!
Thanks all,
Laura

I live in west London but use some solicitors from near Oxford. Highly recommended, and you don't really need them local IMHO.
For surveyors I just used the ones provided by the mortgage company, which is generally e-surv. However I have had some interaction with the surveyors below and they seemed honest and reliable.

There's no need for the solicitor to be local -- everything is usually done by post/email/phone. Unfortunately I don't have a recommendation -- I've used three different conveyancing firms in the past and none of them have been good enough to warrant repeat business.
Re surveyor, you'll need a lender's valuation to be done anyway so you can just pay a bit extra to have it upgraded to a homebuyer's report.0 -

I disagree I would go for a local solicitor. It comes in very handy when you need to chase them up. You can just pop in there and sit in reception until someone sees you.0
