Plastic envelopes for Large Letter rate

Paper envelopes crinkle up with an item inside and so its hard to get the address / postage label to stick even with lots of tape.

So anyone use plastoc envelopes for sending very small items ?
..to get Large Letter rate ?

Do you use opaque or clear ones ?

Anyone had any difficulty claiming for a lost item sent by Large Letter ?

I use a mixture of Jiffy bags and plastic mailers depending on the goods. The plastic ones can be more difficult for things sliding down inside them , but for things that will stay flat they are ideal

Be careful though with labels, they can eh difficult on a plastic mailer

As for claiming, it makes no difference to RM whether items were sent parcel or large letter..

  • I use opaque plastic mailers now in preference to cardboard Jiffy's, helps keep the overall package width down and I can send items Second Class Large much more cheaply at times.

Also, I have started trying different coloured mail bags, green are my current favourite :-)

Re labels, they stick incredibly well to plastic, the envelope needs to be perfectly flat to get a crease free label application.

I'm looking at using transparent ones and putting the address & postage label on the inside.

I've been falling OUT of love with Jiffy's for a long time now. A comment from a "friend" that my package looked "beaten up" when I re-used a perfectly serviceable jiffy started me thinking.
Problems with closing the package neatly when there's a thick item inside and excessive use of tape were more nails in the coffin.

Exactly so which can then be passed on to the buyer = more sales.

Yep and I always forget that and stop with sellotape stuck to my fingers to take the item out again etc etc That's why I'm thinking of putting the label inside and saving money on tape.

Yes I think I may have a solution to that but does it really matter ?

Yes thanks. I have that confirmed now by RM despite being told by PO counter staff the opposite.

The sliding down can be a problem if it starts off as a large letter but is a parcel once it gets into the system.

  • You could use sticky labels rather than tape your labels on - much neater and reasonably easy to keep crease free.

    Quicker too.
