payment options for a new car?
Hi guys just an enquiry i have been searching online and cannot find a proper answer. I was just wondering what payment options do i have when i am buying a new car outright not on finance from a proper dealer like renault/skoka/toyota. Do i have to pay on debit card, bank transfer. cheque?
Thank you in advance!:j

Debit card is fine (on the day at the time of delivery, if they don't like this i'd go elsewhere), but it might be prudent to pay the nominal deposit with a suitable credit card, that's then another legally interested party should anything go catastrophically wrong.
Not many will accept credit card for the full amount due to excessive charges.0 -
I paid deposit on credit card, then final balance when I was collecting on debit card. It's rare the garage will charge when doing it this way.
I used my credit card for the deposit due to the added protection you get from Section 75.
Although it may be worth contacting your bank first and advising them a large payment is due to go through.
You can pay using BACS which is what my Dad did recently, although the company will only be charged about 25p for Visa debit transactions so you may as well do that for the final balance.0 -

I did this when buying my son a car last year from a general dealer. It was just under £3000 and I didn't even warn the bank although I would have done for substantially larger amounts.0
