So there we are, the 2 days grace period is now over
I went to the PO today to get road tax for a customer (thinking that I would get it to start 01st November taking in account 2 working days that I always used to get).... No more, now tax is to start from the day you take it to the Post Office to get it taxed, so anybody getting tax for a new (used) car today/tomorrow has to have it back dated to 01st October
How annoying, at least I know for future....

To be fair though, it was never a 'grace' period, just a pre-purchase period. Your car still wasn't taxed until the first of the month following the early purchase unless it was already taxed to expire on the last day of the preceding month.0

It's exactly as it was. At the moment you may optionally renew (either at the post office or online) from either 1st October or 1st November, but if the latter the car is still SORN for today. No change from before.0

Yep, I've just tried to tax a SORNed vehicle, and it's giving me the choice, too.
Looks like your postofficeperson is a muppet, tigerprint.0
