Tax question on buying second hand car
hi guys, ive searched and searched for the answer before coming on here and ive even emailed the DVLA but no reply.
I had my car written off last week, i am looking to buy a new vehicle this weekend. My question is that if i apply online for tax with direct debits does it want 6 months of payments upfront then a monthly direct debit OR 1 months tax payment then monthly payments after that?
I cant do an enquiry as its asking for the reference number
i was just wondering if anyone knew the answer
Many Thanks

If the car is brand new then you can't use the direct debit method just yet.
However used, but new to you, you just pay monthly with a 5% surcharge. You don't have to pay six months upfront.0 -
It will be a used vehicle I was just unclear what the options would be with it being my first purchase of tax for the vehicle. Do they make u buy 6months worth first then monthly DD after it can u purchase monthly DD straight away0

Hi back again I've just been looking online and apparently the DD option doesn't start until 1st November, I'm looking to buy a car this weekend does that mean I will have to buy 6months tax?0

Yes.

You're also paying for the whole of Oct despite only using the car for 5 days.
Can you wait till next Sat and you'll save the whole month. Guess it depends how much the tax is, £280 is worth it, £30 wouldn't botherRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0
