Help..Energy Tips
Hi,
My house is one of those Scandinavian types with huge 2.8-3mtr wide windows..even the smallest rooms (bathroom and 3rd bedroom/boxroom) have 1.8mtr wide windows. In addition it has a flat roof. As you can probably guess by now, it seeps heat and guzzles gas so much that I can only compare it to how a Lamboghini guzzles petrol!
And quotes on double-glazing windows and a conversion to a pitched roof can cause a heart-attack even when it is whispered out. In fact the only way we've managed to keep the house warm has been to deploy the usage of a Calor Gas heater for the winter months and even that isn't very effective even after having had cavity wall insulation.
What can be done to help keep the house warm? The following have been suggested:
1. Tint the windows with a film as done on cars to keep the heat in. The premise here is that the film traps in the heat which would otherwise escape easily through direct contact on the glass.
2. Take the roof off and introduce a layer of insulation and relay the felt in order to keep the heat from escaping upwards.
3. Use oil paint on interior walls as they help retain heat
What I have done:
1, Brand new boiler fitted 3-4years ago
2. Thicker curtains go up during the winter months
3. Going the eskimo way by wearing extra layers of socks and jumpers.
What else can be done? Someone says Green Deal might help with new windows and possibly a roof...and whiles at it ...solar panels too. Is this correct in any way?
Thanks.
