How to store a rice dish safely

I have to be honest and say I never keep rice. I only eat it if I have cooked it and eaten it straight away.
The problem is I have a really nice rice meat loaf type of dish. It is perfect to eat immediately, but too much for all in one go, so makes a really good snack the next day cold.
My problem is how to make sure I keep the dish safely so I don't end up with food poisoning.
Tomorrow I am on a course so I plan to cook it before I go and take it for my morning snack and lunch.
Should I wrap it in foil straight away and store it in a thermal bag to try to keep it warm all morning until lunch?
Cool it instantly and put in the fridge?
Leave it to go to room temperature and keep it at that temperature?
I am not sure at the point the bacteria forms and how to keep it at bay, so any help I would be most grateful
Thanks

The problems with rice come from storing it too long at room temperature then reheating it because the lurgies (technical term!) can survive the cooking process.
Have a look at this page.

Which would suggest cooking and cooling quickly would be your best bet. Then reheat it when you're ready to eat it if you don't want to eat it cold, if there's facilities available. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
it contains meat and rice? then cool it quickly, and keep it cold until you want to eat it. its ok then to take it out and let it come up to room temp for about half to one hour, if you want to eat it cold. if you want to warm it up then keep it chilled until the last minute.0

People get so het up over rice when really it's not such a huge problem
I work in the catering industry. Rice is cooked maybe up to two days before serving
We reheat it to 75oC. This ensures all bacteria is killed
As long as you cook, cool and chill the rice in short order you will be fine
As an aside, as a normal person who went drinking on a weekend and thought a take away was a good idea, I've survived many a cold leftover as well as a reheated one.0
