National Car hire - accused of being involved in an "accident"

There's no chance of it affecting the no claims bonus on your regular car insurance policy, as you couldn't make a claim for it on that policy, even if you wanted to.

However if you did have an accident in a hire car that would be something you'd have to declare when applying for or renewing car insurance generally - you'll be asked "have you had any accidents in the last 3 (or 5) years?". If you insist that you didn't have an accident but the hire company record you as having had one then things potentially get a bit messy when you have to answer that question - what's true is sometimes less important than what you can prove to be true, or what the record says.
