International Money Transfer from Australia to UK Barclay's account

Hi
I am an Australian living in London. I have a premier Barclay's account in the UK.
3 weeks ago my dad in Sydney transferred me a loan of £8000 from the NAB (National Australia Bank) to my Barclay's UK account. 3 weeks later I am still waiting for it to clear.
I have visited the bank on numerous occasions, called them numerous times and all they say is the same thing, we can see the money is there but it is not fully cleared yet. I cannot get anymore information regarding when I will be able to see it in my account and have access to it.
The money actually arrived in Barclay's account within 9 days but this whole clearing process is so slow.
I have received lower payments before and it has never taken this long. Has anyone had similar experiences of banks taking this long to clear an international transfer ? could anyone give me an insight into why it takes so long ?
Any advice at all would be great.
Thanks

Unless it's being held up for AML checks (which Barclays won't tell you about) then I'd say there is no good reason for it to take so long - it really doesn't need to clear, as the transfer is cleared funds in the first place. I'd make a formal complaint to Barclays now, that may give them the hurry up, and if it doesn't you'll be nearer the date when you can take your complaint to the FOS.0

OP it's a pity you didn't come here and ask before the transfer as there are far faster and cheaper ways of doing it. Your dad should have used a currency broker (e.g. currencyfair.com); you can compare a lot of them here:

One for the future perhaps. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
If the delay is for an anti money laundering check it will have made no difference who had sent it?OP it's a pity you didn't come here and ask before the transfer as there are far faster and cheaper ways of doing it. If the transfer comes from a UK account belonging to a currency broker there may be a lower chance of AML check0

disagree; the broker route is invariably faster as you do the transfers yourself online, and cheaper because of tiny fees and better exchange rates.
Sure, an AML check will delay things but it is only a small part of the end-to-end process. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
My niece transferred some money to me on 30th October. It's now 11th November and I'm still waiting for it. This is only a small amount less than £200. International transfers take far too long.Don't mess with pensioners. :cool:0
