Another road tax question please

I bought a used car for my wife on 29/9 and dated the transfer of sale bit accordingly.
The road tax on it runs out end of October - will I need to tax it from now (1st Oct) myself and the prev owner gets a months refund or does this not take effect until it's due end of October.
Everything I've read suggests that the new rules only come into effect from 1st Oct?

Plug the details into te DVLA registration check thing to see if the vehicle has valid VED.

If the new keeper change date, on the V5C that the vendor sent back to Swansea, is September, then the tax will stay.
