Used Car Issue with Car Dealer - Anyone able to point in right direction?
Hi All,
Hoping someone can help.
The problem isn't actually with myself, but my BIL, so hoping to pass on any info to him.
He bought a used car (58 plate) just over a month ago from a very reputable Car Dealer (not sure if I can use their name, so will leave it at that for the moment).
He had his service light come on and phoned the Dealer to organise something, but they never got back to him after numerous calls. He also reported that a sound seemed to be coming from around the driving wheel area, but was advised this was just the normal noise and due to it being quite a big car and full of electrics was nothing to worry about.
After countless calls, he took it to a local car repair centre to get the service done (has used them for many years), however he was advised by the garage that his steering rack did not appear to have been fitted properly and should take it back to the dealer.
On doing so, he was advised by the dealer that they were taking no responsibility for it and to them it seemed like sabotage???? Which is totally ridiculous.
He called the CA and they advised him to send a letter using the templates on their site, however he is not a internet person so asked me. I checked and it seemed just a basic letter template that the CA had on their site (some faulty goods, sewing machine example, lol).
Has anyone had a similar experience and if so what course of action did you take?
I could possibly make up a letter, but the template from the CA basically just mentions the Sales of Goods Act of 1979 and that is it.
Can anyone assist?

Unfortunately, he's going to have difficulty getting anywhere now he's taken it to someone else to fiddle with. Selling dealer will point out they should have been given the opportunity to investigate and resolve any problems, but now there's no way to prove issues haven't been caused by the third party involvement.0 -
Sounds like a very silly person at the car dealership.
The car had a fault and although you attempted to get it rectified they did not cooperate so you took it elsewhere. The other people recognised that there was a significant bill associated with the work and suggested it might be a warranty issue - they have been helpful.
Your BIL should contact the garage and say that the car was not fit for purpose and wants the fault rectified quoting the sale of goods act. He can then say if they will not rectify it, he will take it elsewhere and get it fixed and claim the money back. Use the template to put that in writing. That should get their attention.0 -

The BIL asked the other garage todo a service, it was not to work on the fault.
