Cheap Homemade Snacks

Hi,
I was in the mood for baking tonight and had cheese that was on the verge of looking dodgy in the fridge. I thought that those on a very tight food budget but still wanting inspirational dishes / snacks might appreciate this recipe:
Cheese and Herb Scones:
Plain Flour 400g
Baking Powder 1 table spoon
110g of Baking fat (such as Stork or cheaper alternative)
110g Any cheese you have (seriously it doesn't matter just grate it)
150ml Water
150ml Milk
Any herb (Fresh, dried, doesn't matter) 1 Table spoon
Pre heat oven to 200 degrees
Lightly flour a baking tray
Mix together Flour, Baking powder and fat in a bowl, add cheese and most of your milk water mix (reserve a little to brush your scones prior to baking)
Turn out onto a floured surface. No need to roll, just pat out until you have an even 2 inch ish spread.
Cut with a 3 inch pastry cutter if you have one, or a tea cup will suffice as a guide.
Put them onto your floured tray, leaving an inch in between, brush with a little of your milk / water mix and bake in the oven for 15 minutes.
Remove from oven and place on a cooling rack.
Ps. They are especially delicious still warm, and can be re warmed in a microwave for 10 seconds:)
I have made 12 tonight, I have frozen the remaining mix (enough for another 12)
These will be used for packed lunches, snacks for after school, work. I may also use them for an accompaniment to soup instead of bread, for lunch / cheap tea.
Hope you find this recipe useful? It is certainly cheaper than manufactured crisps, chocolate, cereal bars in my opinion

Love the recipe definately going to try it - although might of put my kids off savoury scones after making a very dodgy chicken cobbler this week - not sure they have recovered from the trauma yet!!!0

Thanks for the recipe! I used to make HM cheese scones all the time for my OH. They take minutes and can be put in the oven with whatever I'm cooking for tea so no wasting energy.“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A.
