AA won't cancel

 cancelled AA road cover on 12 august at 19.30 as renewal was £137.21. going on holiday on 3rd sept so paid for a new road recovery company for a mere £4.99 per month. went on holiday and guess what, I arrived home today at 4.30am and found the AA have taken my £137.21. IS THIS FRAUD? Tried ringing them and they would only talk to my husband, I arranged the cover so why won't they talk to me. They took my money out of our joint bank account. I bank with Santander who pay 3% interest and they will look into my dispute but they say they will action within 5 days, I said that I would lose over 20days interest but they said I had to take that up with the AA. CATCH 22 THEY WON'T TALK TO ME.
I would never recommend the AA even though they gave me a good deal last year as it is impossible to cancel with them.
Has anybody else had this problem?

what has the interest rate got to do with anything? or has it made you overdrawn?0

Firstly, I wouldn't worry about the interest. 20 days interest on £137 at 3% before tax is deducted is only about 20p.
How exactly did you cancel the AA membership? and did you keep any proof of this cancellation?
Another question is when you took out the joint membership, who was put down as the initial member? If it was your husband, this may be why they will only deal with him as their system is showing him as the primary member.0 -

If they still won't talk to you when you made the arrangements, then let them stew - it is their system that is the problem if they do not have a record of who actually created the contract with them.0 -
The AA took money from my account after I'd called to say I didn't want to continue cover. When I rang them and had a polite conversation it turned out there had been a (understandable) misunderstanding, and they were quick to repay the money. I suggest that you get your husband to do the same thing and cut out the shouting.0

Its very unlikely to be fraud. Possibly a mistake?
As for the interest... 20 days interest is a grand total of approx 23p! Appreciate its a money saving website but im sure if you dig down the back of your couch you will find more than 23p.
Forgot to say, if the AA just reverse the transaction the interest should be calcualtor correctly by Santander. If they refund the money instead then you will be out of the the interest and if your that bothered about it you would need to ask them for it I imagine.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. An important lesson here.
When setting up a payment, always use DD not a card number.
The card is down to them to cancel (you can eventually get it cancelled, but not until after a lot of heartache and your account be raided). A DD, you can just use online banking and cancel at anytime yourself.
I find this very useful, I've had to cancel JL Broadband this week, after they failed to use the MAC code and ignored my proof of posting cancellation within the cooling off period.
EDF are another one, who wanted to lift the DD to £187 per month (in the middle of a switchover) even though that is above our highest monthly usage. A quick DD cancellation and a cheque sent, has got their attention and they're sending letters that it is seriously overdue, even though it is 10 days before they'd normally get their DD payment.
DD payments put you in control and you can cancel instantly, card payment gives them control and puts you at their mercy.0 -
