Evidently you don't like being told your scam wont work. The truth often offends.

What kind of sucks about this forum is the presumption that one is trying to commit fraud or crime. Note that my initial post said that I was
thinking of ways that I can legally keep the car inside the congestion charge to get the residents discount

If there is no legal way to do this then that's wise information, but calling someone a fraudster and a scammer as if you're some kind of sheriff and I'm some kind of villain doesn't really help.

If you genuinely thought it'd be such a legitimate route to getting a discount, is there any particular reason why you didn't just ask TfL directly...?
  • Oh come on... let's not get all holier than thou.

You want to use your mum's address to dodge paying the CC- even though she is not buying the car, will not be the main user and you don't live there... that's not honest now is it?

Then there's the insurance to consider... where will you tell them you keep the car? The address impacts on the premium etc.

She is buying the car actually. The location for insurance purposes will be much the same (central London).

As with most people, I'm concerned with doing what's legal and practical, I don't come to this website for moral advice (although people love to give it, as much as they like to accuse...)

Thanks to those who have provided useful, non-judgemental information on this topic to a new driver

Ah, how convenient that you now add that your mum is buying the car - even though your opening post says that you won an ebay auction... those goal posts move very easily don't they.

How sweet that your mummy is there to help when you need it - perhaps she could dial the phone for you and then you could ask TfL and your insurance company about your 'fronting' proposition.

Yes, it is nice to have a mother who helps me out from time to time. If you had kids you'd probably understand. Have a nice day! Enjoy your amazing life. You amateur detective you!
