Statute barred?

Okay i previously posted a few months ago about an old santander account in which i defaulted on my overdraft in 2005 after a dispute following extortianate bank charges.

It was agreed that seeing as i haven't heard anything since moving back home in 2006 except from the occational contact from santander i.e sending me a new bank card last year ( which was very random since i haven't spoken to or used the account in 9 years).

Anyways i received this letter from Robinsons Way today(might not be exact to word as i threw it away)

Dear Miss ...........

We have been writing to you at the following address (old address vacated in 2006 was inserted here).
We have recently been informed that you are living at this adress.
Can you please contact us on the free phone number to confirm that you are the correct respondent.

Yours Sincerely

Collections Manager

Now i'm pretty sure this is my santander debt as i've read that Robinsons way are known for collecting Santander debts.
This debt doesn't show up on my credit record (and my old address is down as a linked address).
I've also done a check on both my addresses today on Trustonline for Court judgements and nothing is recorded on either. Therefore i'm pretty sure that this debt that they are looking for is statute barred seeing as i left the said addess over 8 years ago.

So my question is. Do i contact them and find out what it is followed by a statute barred template? Or just ignore them?

Thanks in advance

Dee

  • Either ignore until they send something more concrete, or send the prove it letter. That will find out what debt it is.

Looks like its statute barred from what you say. If it turns out to be that account, send the statute barred letter.

Good advice from HB. Personally I would wait until you get a demand with the name of the original creditor, an account number and a sum of money. Then send a prove it letter or go straight in with a statue barred letter.

If they are sure enough, they will follow up with a demand in a week or two. If not, they will go away.
