Books - even worth trying to sell them?

I have hundreds of books, and due to the fact we'll be downsizing in the next year I want to start decluttering.

I've tried Amazon trade in and they don't want any of my books - is it work trying to ebay them? or is there another avenue to go down that is worth a shot? I don't really mind how much i get for them, but anything would help.

if Amazon don't want them then probably just worth trying a charity shop- although some of mine won't take paperbacks anymore as they told me they have stock rooms full of them. Oxfam will always take them though.

You could try looking at completed listings on ebay- but remember to factor in postage fees and ebay/paypal fees.

Thanks. We have a charity bin for books so if all else fails I'll drop them there. I'll do some more investigation.

It would probably be easier to shift them in batches & advertise locally, Gumtree, local facebook selling pages or local paper etc.
I keep thinking I must go through mine & start getting rid of them, but it seems they only go for pence each now.
  • Hi Gonzo

I've sold a few things on Zapper. You put in the isbn number and it comes up with how much they will pay for a book. A few I had were worth over a fiver but most just a few pence. From what I remember they pay the postage. Also you can list books on Green Metropolis.

  • Hi,
    You could try http://www.greenmetropolis.com/.

I've not sold on there but I have bought and found it very good.

I sell my old books on local Facebook groups for about £1 each - cheaper than charity shops!

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

There are swap-it sites for books but if your trying to downsize it's possibly not what your looking for. You could however offer to send the book on if the 'swapper' pays postage? I've done that before on the site, not always met with yes though as many others also are trying to get rid of books!

  • Do check before you let them go.
I found an old penguin book in the cupboard and was going to bin it... it had book worm holes in it.
My husband suggested that I checked on Ebay first, to see if it was worth anything, but I couldn't find a single copy listed.
Always a good sign if you can't find any reference IMO...
well, it sold for £149 !!!!

ps I have just sold a lot of books at the carboot sale this morning. It takes quite a bit of selling though as the pitch fee is £12.

Thanks :-) I have a couple of editions of alice in wonderland which will be staying with me for certain! and I'm not sure I want to get rid of my collection of Terry Pratchett books, so it's just run of the mill books (I think) that I'll be getting rid of.
