Recently sold on ebay.....buyer opened a case!

Hello,

I recently sold a 3DS on ebay. The buyer contacted me yesterday asking for a full refund as the up/down control thing on the left is "completely smashed". Now, it wasn't "completely smashed" or had any problem at all when i sent it. I have checked with all family members to confirm the same. I have even looked at the pictures which were taken only last week and it is in excellent condition. I personally deleted all my sons old things off the DS so know it was ok.

The buyer has said he will send pictures to me so I have given him my number to do that, but not received any pictures yet.

What will ebay do, side with the buyer? Not happy at all really as I know there was nothing wrong with it when i sent it......now the funds are on hold in my account.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance.

  • How long has the buyer had it?
  • I think your only option really is to file a claim with the post office, Ebay will likely tell the buyer to return it for a full refund and youll have to comply

There is a difference in knowing it was OK when you sent it and knowing it was OK once it had gone through the postal system. Was it sent securely boxed and packed against being dropped or buried under a load of other sharp edged heavy items?

If buyer hasn't opened a case you can either ask them to return it now and refund once you have it back, or if you suspect they may be trying it on- tell them to open a case. The case will give you a defect though so make sure your account can stand it.

You have done the right thing in asking for photos, and could always just wait to see if the photos materialize or not. If item is damaged you will also need the packaging, especially the box to make your claim to Royal mail. Without knowing the value of the item I assume you used the correct postage method to cover yourself against damage?

lastly, I am intrigued as to why you had to ask other family members whether this was Ok when you sent it- it implies someone sent it on your behalf as you didn't see it once photographed.

    There are two scenarios:

    1. It got broken in post

    2. They already have a broken one and are planning on swapping it. Did you write down the serial number? You could always say you'll check the uv security marking once they have sent it back...
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Thanks for your help, I sent it recorded delivery, if thats what you mean. Wasnt asked at the post office about a value.

I sent it myself, i asked my partner and son just in case there was something i was missing about it being broken.

I photographed it, packaged it and sent it. There was nothing broken when it was sent......

I never thought about the serial number, the photographs still haven't materialised. I will say I will check the UV security marking, thanks. Never thought of them sending back a broken one they already have.

Will also ask them to return the packaging for royal mail claim purposes.

But if you didn't package it up properly, it could have been broken when it arrived. That's why people are asking you about your packaging.
