Friday 12th September - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important

Good morning Ziggy, and all those who come along later :)

    For me today:
Clean bathroom with products I already have Done
Washing out on the line to dry Done
Small shop for the weekend, as we are expecting visitors tomorrow :)Done
    Re-organise spare room Done
Take some items to sales unit to replace those that have sold Done, but must do a big re-organise next week
Put spring cabbage seedlings into bigger pots / trays Not yet
Think about what to do for pudding tomorrow lunchtime, for a crowd Blackberry cobbler it is!
    Today's meals from stores
  • The things I will do today are:
    1) Not buy ANYTHING
    2) Enter some competitions to try and win some things for Christmas
    3) Make tea from food we already have and follow the meal plan
    4) Finally list some things I've had for ages to put on Ebay.
  • Hello! And happy Friday, very ready for the weekend!

    Today I have/will

-Sold another item for £8 on fb.
-Had a meeting and a productive day at work.
-Enquired about funding now my business has completed its first year.
-Sent of a grant application for my business.
-Checked banking and updated business accounts spreadsheet.
-Withdrawn cash for the weekend to try and avoid using bank account, currently £30 under weekly budget again so will try to keep it that way and stash it in savings when the week is over.
-Had a think about what MSE things I can do with my son tomorrow - will bake banana break using leftover nanas and maybe some flapjack, will take him swimming using my pass so just him to pay for, will take him to the park too. A nice simple day but hopefully one he will like.
-Did shop for the weekend/next week at Aldi, spent around £25 but got a lot: a full chicken to do a roast and another meal or two, a bag of frozen chicken fillets, a steak for my tea Sunday, pizza for tea tomorrow, bacon, wipes, bananas, grapes, cornflakes, salad, a salmon fillet for lunch, croissants, milk...
-Friends round for a Chinese tonight, but they are bringing a bottle and we'll each just pay for what we order. I'll try to be strict and just get one dish!
    -Will walk the pup.

Back to the grindstone now, if I can blitz my list this afternoon that will have been a very productive week and I can relax over the weekend :)

    xx
  • Hello all, Happy Friday :j, thank you Ziggy for the start.

Never ceases to amaze me how much further our money goes at @ldi Noodlenoo. Still waiting for one to open nearer to us - till then we do a once monthly trip and then top up locally.

Didn't get to see my usual dentist yesterday (have had three lots of treatment on the tooth and had been told "I'll have to extract it if anything else happens"). Dentist I saw yesterday just patched it up and gave me a week of antibiotics. I took a whole day off for this and am still in pain!!! Still, at least there was no charge (apart from prescription and barrel loads of painkillers).

Today I am back at work and got a lift. All meals from home/plan. Actually have a large surplus of the pasta I made last night (even though I brought some to work today) as both sons did not eat at home, but didn't say they'd be out. I also took curry sauce and chicken out of the freezer and don't want to refreeze.... I'm going to portion up the pasta and freeze that and see how it turns out.

Need to reshuffle the food plan and work out shopping list. Have got a £6 Waitrose voucher but need to do a £50 spend, though I do also have a £25 John Lewis voucher that I could use. Maybe I'll get some Christmas storecupboard things...

    Best wishes x

    Afternoon Friday Savers,
Busy day so far but have kept the faith with money saving:
*Grocery shopping came in on budget, even though we have a guest staying this weekend. Just shows planning is important.
    *Updated budgets.
*Checked online banking for missing cheque which has now appeared. Paid it straight into credit card account. Now that we're very strong where credit cards are concerned, we often put a planned purchase on a card just to get the points (for vouchers) & pay off online within the next couple of days.
*Did Onepoll surveys. Will do Toluna later.
    *Cleaned house using minimal products.
*Used remaining hair colour to sort out my roots. I keep one of the nozzle bottles & make up just half a quantity, so that I can get 2 lots of root applications from one kit. Then the next time, I use a whole box to sort out any bits that need blitzing. Saves a few quid over the year & seems to work ok.
*Free fitness today was doing my exercise DVD first thing, then spending an hour sweeping up the courtyard.
    *Baked bread for weekend.
*Gathered more windfall apples & pears. Cut more courgettes, tomatoes & a big pepper.
*Received a free magazine in the post from a Nice Person.....you know who you are! :-)
    *Did a competition.
*Free Guardian courtesy of 'My Waitrose' card.
*Anti-histamine tablets from Aldi instead of £Silly Amount for branded ones. (I have to have a supply in stock as I am always getting badly bitten when I'm outside working in the garden).
*Village butcher knocked a bit off our bill again this morning - think it obviously pays to become a regular, & to stop & have a little chat, as we seemed to have an awful lot of sausages & bacon for £10. Some of that will defo be going in the freezer.
*Cut down a couple of plastic bottles for free cloches for the veggie garden.
OK, better catch up with Toluna surveys now. I seem very behind with them, but I really want to maximise John Lewis vouchers between now & Christmas/ ready for when they have the best offers on Kenwood Chefs.
    Enjoy your Friday night, everyone,
    f x
