If your child is genuinely in the bracket of those who would be entitled to high rate care and mobility (high rate care meaning he needs care during the night aswell as day and high rate mobility meaning there are severe behavioural and/or severe learning issues) then why on earth have you not mentioned that to anyone?

It would be the first thing to cross my mind and you already know that being a carer changes things, yet you didn't even think to mention he even has special needs?!?!?!?!

As for waiting for the DLA to come through, remember that it can take 3 months

I’m not sure what your point is, my question was in relation to being sanctioned, you have changed the parameters by asking me questions regarding DLA.
My first priority with my son was to get him the correct medical attention necessary.
My main focus has not been to obtain DLA + carers.
I’m now realising DLA is the best option in terms of creating an easier life for us both in terms of access to services and financial help.

Not everyone is as knowledgeable as yourself in relations to all benefits available to them and not everyone has a family or a network for advice and support.
When you’ve walked in my shoes I’d feel you’d have a better understanding.

    But thank you anyway.

When I've walked in your shoes? I'm the single parent to a 15 year old severe and complex autistic with learning disability, challenging behaviour and sensory issues... I don't have a family either

The point is you could've helped yourself much sooner if you had made people aware of your circumstances. Always remember to do it, it is important

Don't be judgemental just seems you are acting like you are supermum and everyone should be like you.

I have austism myself but high functioning and I think what you said is bad.

Why would I be taking the mick? I've had to do it on my own too, you said 'when you've walked in my shoes'.I have.

As I said, the point is you need to make people aware. If you had been open with them about your sons needs in the first place you could've saved a lot of hassle and argument. Hindsight is a wonderful thing though. Just be sure to explain to them in future, if and when needed, so you don't get any other hassle from them.

I hope it all goes smoothly for you now. Many don't understand the needs of our kids and they definitely won't understand if they don't know. They certainly won't understand the enormous childcare difficulty if they do not know. If you make sure they do know it will help you.

I find your statements offensive. I was under the impression this site would have members that are a supportive of each other, not condecension.

Unfortunatly not everyone has been raised in an environment where discussing your personal affiars to random strangers is an everyday occurance, regardless of the persons position within society.

When seeking medical help it never crossed my mind to ask a doctor for money, try to remember as you stated in your comments you have 15yrs experiance behind you.

But thank you again, my actual problem has been resolved.

Just a quick jump in here. OP can claim IS and apply for CA while the DLA is being processed. The claim for IS in this interim period can be paid for up to 26 weeks. Put in the claim for CA at the same time as DLA, to make sure that an award runs from the start of a successful DLA claim.

It also seems to me that ATM a claim for dla and ca would be better to give you some breathing space to focus on your son without this extra stress. My son is 5 and disabled and I've never heard of 3 month claims, his first one was 2 years before his diagnosis then recently it was renewed untill he is 16. Phone up for forms ASAP and if you need any help filling them in then get it as I found it an upsetting process.
