just been diagnosed with fallen arches and oa in ankles is there anthing i can do to help this fallen arches , i have been given new insoles for my shoes just wondered if there was anthing i can do at home

Myself, hubby and DD have fallen arches. I was diagnosed as a child and given exercises to do, and attended a clinic regulary, now I don't have any problems. My DD and OH were diagnosed last year and were both given insoles which they find really help, OH was told due to his age (40) there wasn't much they could do, but DD was given exercises to do.

It might be worth checking in with a physio. My fallen arches have led to knee problems. I got some exercises to strengthen my leg muscles (especially squats and lunges) and to loosen tight calf muscles and they do seem to have helped a bit. I don't know if this exactly helps with fallen arches but it does prevent them from bringing on more severe problems...

thanks all iam currently seeing a podiatrist and under going treatment but its so painful

iam currently trying out new insoles in myshoes and have to back in a few weeks to have permanant ones

Mine aren't permanent but they're semi permanent (designed to last a couple of years or so I think). I'm having a bit of bother with them at the minute because the non-slip adhesive cover has come off them so my feet are sliding around over them. I suppose I'm not sure what difference they have made. My chronic knee pain (caused apparently by pronation in the feet due to arch problem) has all but gone but I've also been doing exercises for this as well so can't quite say which of the two has done the trick. They do feel odd at first and I think the general advice is to take it slowly and see how you go.

I have no idea if this would help, but it occurred to me, you know those little sock things made from the same material as tights and popsocks, if you put one of them upside down over the insole (ie with the opening down rather than up, a) would it still fit in your shoe and b) would it stop the sliding around?

I am sure the old-style answer would be to cut the foot out of an old pair of tights and use that first ...

I thought of doing this but I think it would just slide against the plastic too. but posting about it inspired me to get in touch with the podiatrist and she has ordered me in new covers at no cost Just have to go and get them today...
