Working from home can make you feel a bit isolated (I work from home too) but your LO is starting primary and there will be playground full of Mums there who will be potential new friends and who is to say you'll lose touch with your existing friends. Have you suggested meeting up with any of them?

I know it sounds ridiculous, but they are all really quite sorted and settled and entertain a lot as couples, not really just "mums" there will be a couple I'll stay in touch with I hope but I think that might be it.

LO will be going where his big sis went-it'll be much the same. It's a particular type of education that I don't fit particularly well into!

Have you checked to see what support you'd get financially as a student if you transferred your credit to a local uni and studied what is laughingly called full time? I manage to schedule 33 hours working a week on the phones as well as study

He's only 3. I couldn't imagine putting him in a holiday club. Not even sure if they'd take him if I did.

I am on the edge of tears that you're all being so kind and helpful and I'm appearing so ungrateful.

Yes. Ridiculously they won't accept any of my OU modules (I am doing a named degree, not open!) as I went through ucas but they told me I'd have to start again!!

There's a terrific book by Emily White called 'Lonely', which is well worth reading. It doesn't pretend to have all the answers but mixes the author's personal experience with loneliness with the research into it.

OP your posts are rather negative so what came first? Bored and lonely making you feel negative, or are negative thoughts making you feel lonely? Personally I think it is quite easy for a single mother to be isolated and working from home may only serve to increase that feeling. Now you are faced with seeing less of the man in your life and the friends from school and this may feel pretty daunting.

There are childcare options and as long as you work 16 hours a week there is help with childcare costs through tax credits, this includes self employment. Some work outside of the home whether voluntary (something in common with your degree) or a few hours paid work will give you some adult company and a change of scene. If not work then some sort of class or group where you can enjoy a hobby while the children are at school?

Your stuck between a rock and a hard place with your boyfriend if he is too busy to see you that can't make you feel good and if he sees you as needy then he might withdraw further.

Don't be afraid to see your GP there are variants of depression and not all with the same symptoms as PND. Perhaps you can access some kind of talking therapy in your area? Sometimes life events make us feel sad and lonely and we need someone to help motivate us to move forward.
