Dog insurance - should the premium be less with existing conditions excluded?

ALSO POSTED IN PETS FORUM...

Hiya!

Random question but...We've just rehomed a dogs trust lurcher (lovely boy!) - but he's on their part adoption scheme as he has existing probs with his left and right hip and left stifle (knee).

So obv any pet insurance won't cover this (and that's fine as dogs trust will) - but I was thinking if the insurer doesn't have to insure the whole dog (in the sense that the knee and both hips are excluded) should we be able to get a reduced premium?

Or am I just looking for money saving oppos where there are none!?

Any thoughts? Thanks! :o

No as most polices are not tailor made like this, its a generic policy with a set premium.

You may be able to obtain a bespoke policy however I would imagine you will extra for this anyway so you wont gain.

No, because the joints are insured, just not for the condition they have. So if they were to be hit by a car and the bones broken then as long as they didnt brake because of the condition then they'd still be covered.

Arguably also with a lot of conditions there is a general heightened risk that they will go on to develop other conditions that they will have to cover.
