Fastest way to strip painted lining paper

I need to tackle another room soon - it's been done (badly) with lining paper and painted over a few times, using emulsion type paint.

In the past I've scored the paper and dampened it using a large brush until it easily scapes off but this takes a long while.

Anyone got a quicker way - eg do those steam strippers really work?

They do work well. But you need to be careful not to overdo it. Easier to soak the plaster with a steam stripper.

Yes, when using a steam stripper be careful of blistering the plaster.

I have walls that are paper over plaster board.

I found the steamer over did it and pulled of the board paper leaving the walls in a right mess.

I am now pulling the paper it is coming off in large chunks leaving some of the backing behind, which when soaked with soapy water carefully, is lifting of in one piece leaving mostly cleanable walls

Not sure if that will work for lining paper with paint, could try a bit first.

THe decorator we got in to fix up the messed up walls says always try the peel and soak before getting te steamer out.

Thanks all. Yes, peel and soak isn't too long winded but sometimes you can't get big enough pieces to peel and it gets tedious.

    Might look at steamers.
