Anniversary/Special date on a budget

Hi all
I need a bit of help with celebrating our wedding anniversary and also what would have been our baby's due date (within a week of each other) on a budget. We would like to try to get away for a day or so leaving our dd with MIL. I had wanted to go to the hotel we got married in but it's really expensive. £165 a night and the restaurant is £30 per person min.
Does anyone have any suggestions of what we could do? It's been a really tough few months and we could do with a break! Trouble is we're on a pretty tight budget, I can stretch it a bit but not far :(

    how much is the budget?
does this need to include travelling?
how far are you willing to go?
what night would you like to be away?
The only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 5

Doesn't necessarily need to include travel expense, could go 60 miles ish as that takes me to around the Midlands (where we got married and I grew up). We live in Bedford. The designation isn't really an issue, so long as we can be occupied. It's more of a getting away to focus on things rather than just being at home.
Ideally we will go away on sat 23rd August, which makes it more expensive as it's the bank holiday weekend :(
I guess budget is £100 ish?
  • Would you like a nice country pub and book 'Bed and Breakfast' for yourselves? it would be cheaper than a hotel and if the pub does food your evening meal would be much cheaper than a hotel restaurant and just as nice although probably not as 'cheffy'. We've had some good deals doing this as the charge has been by the room rather than by the person and found some lovely out of the way places we've not been to before.

how about a premier inn, i know its not quite as romantic, but when we have stayed in them they have always been nice, and they are great value leaving a little more for your meal, or if you went somewhere pretty like stratford upon avon maybe a romantic picnic by the water would make a change

Sometimes if you go to Premier Inns that aren't in touristy places they can be cheaper outside the working week. That might be true of the Midlands.

If you want to keep occupied maybe you'd rather find a curry house or a busy pub for your meal rather than a quiet, romantic place.

Have a look at the daily deals sites like KGB and Living Social. There are others too but we have been on a few of these. Usually around £99 - £129 for two nights for two, bed and breakfast. Very often there is an evening meal on the first night too. We have really enjoyed the ones we have been on.

  • Rather than stay out Overnight which will really raise the price up could you go out somewhere special for the day and use your hundred pounds for a special day treat somewhere you haven't been before then take advantage of the empty house to have a lovely meal and quiet night at home. For our anniversary one year DH cooked me our wedding breakfast! 3 courses! Such a lovely surprise, then maybe you could go out somewhere nice for breakfast? Might work out a bit cheaper but still be special.

DeVere have some lovely hotels, and a low cost room finder chart on their site, which could be worth a look?

Milton Hill house in Abingdon is lovely if that's any good to you...sunningdale park in Ascot, not so romantic.
