Hi, can anyone help.
My husband's Nan is going to be coming to live with us for a while, she is 81 and had a stroke about 18 months ago. Im not 100% sure if she claims disability and gets a pension. Im wondering if one of us would be entitled to carers allowance or anything. Someone has told us that it could affect her/our benefits but i cant get my head around the info online.
Hubby was recently made redundant so we are currently getting JSA (NEA), child benefit (3 children), child tax credit, housing and council tax benefit.
Im just trying to work out if we will be entitled to any extra for her care etc.
Thank you in advance

She needs to either be claiming Attendance Allowance (either rate) or mid high care DLA if she became disabled before 65.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

she became disabled at 79 and do you mean for us to get carers or for her benefits not to be affected?0

Her benefits would only be affected if she receives the severe disability premium within pension credit, for which, she has to receive either rate of attendance allowance (AA) no-one receives carers allowance for her and she needs to live alone, or be classed as.Sealed pot challenge #232. If she is claiming housing benefit, then more than short periods could cause problems for that, as she's not living in the property.0

Hi rogerblack
Thanks for your reply, she is currently living with another relative but it's not working out for them or her0 -
The first thing you need to do is find out which benefits she is currently receiving.
Then come back and we can tell you exactly what you might be able to claim and even, maybe what extra benefits she can claim.
Without this information we are not able to give you detailed help. it is possible that the other relative is already claiming Carer's Allowance for her.0 -
I would speak to the Adult Social Services at your Local Authority or County Council to see what additional help and support (if any) you could receive to keep your husbands Nan at 'home' rather than in a care home.

If so does she receive any Direct Payments?

Thank you both, when my husband speaks to her during the week I'll get him to ask what she receives already. She is coming here a week on Sunday0
