Laminate Flooring Recommendations

Evening savers,
We have finally exchanged today and I am making plans of what I can buy
Has anybody got recommendations for a good laminate flooring in an oak colour?
It will be for our living room so will be a well used room.
I have found lots of I like the look of, but a friend of mine has replaced theirs 3 times in a year due to buying cheap, so I don't want to make the same mistake!
Thank you in advance

Thank you in advanceUndersteer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0 -
Agreed, either a proper wood floor or kardean/amtico.
We went with the kardean after seeing what laminate does within a year.
Strangely the only laminate Ive laid and its looked ok a year later is a click tile solution by b&q in a kitchen. Actually survived water being spilt on it etc.0 -
Laminate is fine, and in a lot of cases the decent stuff is more durable than real wood so I'd personally say comments above re: all laminate being unsuitable for your needs are completely inaccurate. I installed Pergo living expression in my old house. The surface is almost impossible to scratch, and was fine after a couple of years heavy use with dog/kid etc. It isn't cheap though, roughly 25 quid per sq metre. Quickstep laminate is supposed to be pretty good as well I think. I've seen real wood floors which quite frankly look crap after a few years due to marks/dents etc.0

I've used the B&Q Aqualoc in three houses over ten years, still looking good. Not the 'budget' thin product, it was about £14/mtr. They dont appear to sell it an longer though, unless their current product is same, but a newer name.
For my next place I've looked at the Quick Step ranges and it looks pretty good. There are lots suppliers and colour choices and suitabilities, so you should be ok.
I dont rate wood floors, unless you spend a lot and are prepared to sand and treat, if they are well used.
Your friend either had low quality product, bad installation or really heavy useage (with possibly wrong product)

I think aqua-loc became click-tile became something else. The aqua-loc you mention sounds a lot like the quick tile stuff I put in a kitchen. Still going well a year later even after numerous water spills which normally kills laminate.
Only thing it doesn't do well is cope with things being dropped on it (although thats the nature of the product).
The reason I went with Kardean is because its much better at coping with floors which aren't perfectly level, or floors on top of a non concrete or solid base (i.e. floorboard or ply). It also allows things like edge trim which can set a room off nicely and copes with step down or split levels better.0 -
I've had engineered wood, didn't like it at all although it wasn't a particularly expensive one. I've now got Quick Step and would recommend.0
