Wall mounting a TV - recommendations

I am looking to wall mount the TV and am in the fortunate position that we are going to get the room skimmed so can go to town a bit on hiding the cables.
Does anyone have any tales of success/regret with doing something similar.
I will obviously have to run the power lead to the TV and an HDMI cable from the Virgin Media box to it but is there anything else to future proof it as far as I can?
My current aerial lead hasn't been plugged in for a couple of years as we just watch TV through the V+ box and not the digital tuner so I was going to leave that out of the equation.
Any additional comments would be very welcome.

Having a wife who hates the sight of any wires, was set the task of sorting out the tv.
The tv was mounted on a disused chimney breast which backed onto the attached garage. So all the wires come thru from the garage, power and Virgin . The boxs are set into a box within the fireplace and the leads from the Virgin+ / dvd player all travel up the ( well about 18 inches ) the chimney and come out at the rear of the plasma screen .
result no wires at all on display.but is there anything else to future proof it as far as I can?
Make sure you have room to hide additional cables, we don't know what advances are going to be made in the future. Also when things go wrong/ break make it easy to replace the equipment0 -
Ive done my own install and recommended on another install where I put the sky+/Virgin/Whatever box in another room and then run Cat-6 network cabling in the walls.
I then terminate with these faceplates (or similar) which allow HDMi and IR send receive (to change channels).
the end result is just a tv on the wall with nothing else visible.

Might want think about sound.
If you are happy with your tv's sound there is no issue but if you want to upgrade it there are 2 ways
1. soundbar you will need the output from the tv to sound bar.
2. Av receiver eveything plugs into the av receiver (sky virgin xbox playstation etc) and the sound goes from there direct to speakers leaving only hdmi to tv for picture.
We chose option 2 but noe slightly regret it as the tv is smart so can do youtube etc but the sound doesn't go through the sound system0 -
+ Put everything in conduit, not just buried in the plaster.
+ Run Cat 5, 2nd HMDI, optical S/PDIF and 2nd power cable while it's easy for future expansion
+ Terminate the HDMI with 90 degree adapters rather than force the cable to bend when you push the TV against the wall0 -
I ran 3 x hdmi, 2 x opticals, 1 x LAN, 1 x Power, 2 x coax, 1 x 8 core cable for led lights behind the tvpvoutput.org/intraday.jsp?id=39350&sid=359520

My recommendation is don't.
Or, if you must wall mount it, place it at eye level or slightly below when in your normal viewing position.
Wall mounted flat screen TVs may look great but can give you neck strain if you have to look up at them for very long.
If you have room and budget for a stand, use one of those instead.0 -

How about a phone lead ? The Sky box uses the phone line for updates, I think, Are Virgin the same ?0
