Who to go to, for help with CICA claim after assault?

Hey guys, hopefully this will be a quick one. Apologies in advance for waffling, its a bad habit of mine

About six months ago, while walking home from a night out with work, I was attacked by two guys who had the intentions of robbing me. Fortunately for me, some passers by interrupted them before they managed to get anything of value. Unfortunately for me, they did not turn up until after I had been knocked unconscious, and they'd had a couple of rounds of football with my face. Waking up concussed, hungover, and strapped to a hospital bed isn't fun. The police were no help, the only thing they did was check the council CCTV (which was supposedly 'pointing the other direction at the time, so did not catch anything') and then gave up. I'm not really bitter about the whole thing, bad things happen, that's life. I'm still alive so it wasn't a total disaster!

I was left with two fractures, one just to the left of my eye, one just below my eye. Amongst other injuries including massive concussion, nose bleeds that lasted over a month, black eyes, bruises all over, some scarring. I was completely unable to work for a month, unable to eat anything for around a month, couldn't drive, or even leave the house really. This was over Christmas, so a pretty crappy time was had.

I ended up in hospital, undergoing two separate operations. Even after six months later, I'm physically not back to normal, I have occasional dizzy spells and headaches, I struggle to focus on anything to the left, and still have loss of feeling to part of my face.

I was speaking to a policeman the other day, who told me I could be able to claim for the injuries under CICA, and so I've been looking into it. I'm a bit lost though as to some of the details, mostly around where I would list the exact injuries.

I don't want to submit any incorrect info, as I've been told that these applications can drag on, particularly when anything in the application is wrong.

Who would be the best person to go to for help with filling all of this in? I've not been to my GP about any of this before, as its all been done at the hospital, from being rushed into A&E, to being treated and checkups as an outpatient.

I'm guessing my GP would be first port of call. But is there anyone else would be of more help?

Thanks!

Give the officer who dealt with the robbery a call as they will know the ins and outs of the incident. You will need the crime number and or incident number and lots of your hospital notes including doctors names and dates etc.
    Good luck.

what an awful trauma. I was attacked 20 years ago and I got cica compensation. I went though victim support. I wish in hindsitght that I'd waited a bit to do the form as I developed PTSD a year later and I wish I had put in the psychological effects of being attacked as I only got pain for physical injuries,.
Many thanks to all who contribute on MSE :)

I'm really sorry to hear that The Magnificent Spoon. Why not give CICA (0808 2714 296) a call & ask them? If they want a letter from the Dr they'll ask for one, & they'll pay for it too. Good Luck!
