My old printer is a Canon MP600, which has suited me very well.

It's getting on a bit now, and the replacement cartridges are very expensive.

Can anyone recommend a current printer that also scans and copies and where the ink is cheaper?

I will need it to be compatible with my Windows 7 desktop and MacBook Air laptop - I'm not sure if this is possible.

There are lots of multifunction printers out there. All you will get by asking for recimmendations is people telling you about theirs which is probably only of limited use as the models and deals are constantly changing. Sort some possibilities out then check to make sure compatible ink cartridges are available. Epson used to be good for this but some modeld now have firmware that blocks compatibles. SFAIK only Epson are doing this right now so I'd personally avoid Epson but by all means check specific models.

Since its getting on a bit and you was going to bin the printer how about using compatibles? You can get a set on ebay (other places as well) for £2.99. A lot cheaper than buying a new printer and when it does give up the ghost then you havent lost a lot.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've already tried the Tesco compatibles, and they didn't work. I got an error message, the printer would not recognise them.
