hi all,
im a single parent ( father ) with 3 kids, i work and rent the house im living in,
recently things have became really difficult, with work, i get child benefit, and nothing else,
i am still working but not that many hours ( 28 ), and now am earning about £230.00 PW,
would i be able to look for some help from benefits,
the reason i ask is that i own a studio flat value £126K ,mortgage £100 K which is rented out and just covers the mortgage no profit,
at the moment im using my savings to live which soon will run out.
thanks
Alan

This situation is complicated in that you own a property which has equity (capital) and also provides an income. There is a formula that is used in these circumstances and hopefully someone more knowledgeable will know what it is.
The benefits that you can apply for are:
Housing Benefit
Council Tax Reduction
Child and working tax credits.
Google to find out how to apply.
It is possible that you would be eligible for one or more of these so I should apply for all of them.
Another option would be to sell the studio flat and use the capital to supplement your income.
Is there any chance of getting more hours at work?0 -

Is there a reason why you weren't already claiming?
ive been ok upto now, my aunt helped out with the kids while i went to work,
sadly shes not here now,and i have an aupair to help with kids.
TBH i dont want to claim ,but now i need to look at all my options,
Benefits are for people in need, up until now ive never been that bad.0 -

Why do you need to pay child minders when you have an au pair?
You can claim some child care costs through child tax credits but the child care providers have to be OFSTED registered.
See here about registering au pairs:
