My dad recently passed away, and the BT account is in his name. Before I get in touch with BT (knowing what a pain they are to deal with), I just want to know whether it should just be a straightforward transfer of account name to mom's or will it mean them trying to get more money from her by them cancelling the old contract and taking out one in her name?

Contact them it should be no problem .
I just continued the service in my name and later changed the package .
Probably start a new contract from date of change but they certainly do not get any more money same amount billed and exact same services .

I've been on BT's web site and there are the usual stories from people who've tried to transfer account name from dec'd spouse, and the account's been cancelled. I just want to know whether they are supposed to transfer the account name over (and they just c*ck up when they haven't done so) or whether they are supposed to cancel and restart a new contract.
