External wall insulation boards

Does anyone have experience of installing external wall insultation boards? We are considering these for our bathroom extension. Are they easy to fit and worth the money? Any tips?
Getting the whole house professionally externally insultated is another option with the possiblity of 75% paid through the Green Deal (https://www.gov.uk/government/news/7600-to-make-your-home-more-energy-efficient) but the application deadine is the end of the month, I'd need an energy survey done (last EPC 2010), and people say it is difficult to find Green Deal installers.

I am having my house assessed under green deal back end of next week for solid wall insulation. I have had problems and noit the only one finding someone who will do the assessing most of them live some distance of my home town which isnt small town but on the coast
Are you sure its back end of the month the grant has only just gone up this month from 4k to 6k?
I am having to pay £150 to be assessed as I said few people will come to my town and the one that did chargers extra as he has to travel 20 miles0 -

I have arranged a Green Deal accredited company to come round today to advise me and give a quote.
Point 11 of https://www.gov.uk/government/news/7600-to-make-your-home-more-energy-efficient states: "The Green Deal Cashback Scheme remains open until 30 June... ". Note 1 to editors states "The Green Deal Home Improvement Fund (GDHIF) will be available to householders in England & Wales from June 2014." It's a bit confusing, I will try to clarify.0 -
The Green Deal company told me that so long as the application is in by 30th June, the work can be carried out in the following six months.0

Thanks that doesn't give me much time nearest I get the survey done in next Friday, its bad enough trying to get someone here as many are reluctant to travel from other places. Seems odd that the offer is only open a month, first I knew of it was what you said even Energy Savings Trust and my local council never told me this and only just spoken with both0

I've recently used plasterboard with an insulated backing, although it was more expensive, the end result was superb. The product was easily available from the usual suspects Jewsons etc.0

It does, but then 75% is a huge contribution. I am waiting for my quotes, as I wonder what figure I'll have to pay 25% of if I go ahead.
I originally thought the Green Deal was a waste of time as it was effectively a loan paid back through future energy bills, but as I understand this one it is a straight 75% cash back.0 -
It's up to 75% I think to maximum of 6k. Yes its a good lump off, but I am a bit sceptical whether companies up there prices like they do with insurance jobs to milk it.0

Of course they do , a green deal contractor has to jump through multiple hoops to get there , all of these incur costs . These costs are then transferred to the end customer, that's just the way it is.
I'M sceptical as to whether the end customer will ever see a financial benefit from EWI . That's not to say there isn't a moral benefit that cant be quantified but financially over average house ownership time scale is debateable , whether it will pay for itself. Yes its expensive , we all do it for £95 per square meter . plus scaffolding and that assumes there isn't too much external rain water and other associated bits that need moving . The roof has a big enough soffet to take it and there aren't vast amount of windows that need their sills doing. I have seen prices as high as £125 per square meter. You've got to save an awful lot of electric to get your money back. They've recently done a load of public authority housing around my way. A part from the fact that the finish is far from the best , I have my doubts about its longevity in these circumstances as the tenants would probably knock holes in without much worry as they didn,t pay for it. The other thing that seems abit strange , is they are cavity built properties and I know there,s no cavity fill insulation in there , so the heat on the inside passes through the inner wall into the cavity , heat rises , where is it going to go ? So you are going to have a lovely warm row of tiles on the roof!0
