Hi,
I get housing benefit, it's in my name and gets paid into my account, but rent comes out of my husbands account. Do you think this is ok or should I swap it into mine? Any advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You can do whatever you want with your Housing Benefit - blow it on Gin and Vodka - it is up to you to organise your finances to pay your rent and household expenses. You don't need to show to anyone your Housing Benefit is being used to pay your rent - as long as you are paying your rent. With Universal Credit you will just get a lump sum. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0 -

I've not been following Universal Credit. Does this mean that day to day money and rent money will be combined? We're coming full circle back to when Supplementary Benefit included rent?0 -

Yep - HB, Child Benefit, Tax Credits etc... all lumped together. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0 -

I didn't realise that child benefit is going to be part of the one benefit, Universal Credit. I thought it was just the income based benefits presently known as Working Tax Credits; Income based JSA; Income based ESA; Child Tax Credits; Housing Benefit and Income Support.
I suppose it makes sense to add Child Benefit to UC too as that benefit is now income based too....RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Child Benefit is not included in UC.
