Working Tax Credits - Withdrawal of Claim

Hi, I hope someone can help. I claimed WTC in 2011 and everything was fine until the end of April 2013 when I asked if I could withdraw my claim as I knew that I would no longer qualify for WTC because I was going to stop working in my business. I called WTC and said that I wanted to withdraw my claim and I thought that would be the end of the matter. Now WTC is chasing me for repayment of the payments made between 6 April 2013 and 29 April 2013. I don't understand why as I qualified for WTCs between these dates. Why should I have to pay this money back? Thanks.

As Blonde bubbles says, withdrawal is different from reporting you stopped working.
You would have qualified for a 4 week run-on if you stopped working. Did you complete your renewal forms that would have been sent after that probably end April/May time? If you didn't, then there is no claim from 6 April so therefore no entitlement. Renewal forms (probably a misleading name) also finalise the previous year and establish the claim for the new year.
