JSA - Class 1 National Insurance Contributions

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could offer me a bit of guidance.

I currently live with my partner I am 26 and he is 24 turning 25 in July. My partner is self-employed and runs an e-commerce business.

I am currently unemployed, I was previously self-employed from 2012-2014. I have recently made a claim for JSA which has been rejected because I haven't paid enough Class 1 National Insurance Contributions. Am I likely to get anywhere with making an appeal?

Also is anyone able to recommend any further benefits we may be likely to claim? We have put in a claim for Housing Benefit and a Tax Reduction which are currently been processed.

You need to have been paying class 1 national insurance contributions for the previous two tax years to claim contribution based JSA. As you were self employed then you would have not been paying class 1.

You need to be 25 years old and working 30 hours a week to be eligible for working tax credits and of course, it will depend on your income.
