hi, has any one come across security camera software that will take/record looped video and save onto a PC or external HD to run on either windows xp /7 or Ubuntu .... or even a Raspberry Pi

I have a decent generic wifi IP camera (can be cable connected) and it will motion detect ..... but video looping would be better. A 24hr in small segments 4-30 min that writes over earlier footage would be perfect!

thanks

The software usually comes supplied with your camera or capture device.

Do you want to leave your PC on 24/7? If not a smaller and more power efficient DVR with a built in hard drive maybe a better option.

I have a 16 channel DVR that can accept many different camera's, Connects to the home network so i can check the video remotely over the internet.
Cost £80 but comsumes far less than a PC.

If using the PC, How are you connecting the camera to it? Does your IP camera not have software provided?

The camera did come with software but would not loop video, I have tried other software again with out this feature.

I have several possibilities for the recording , the easiest would be a PC that is all ways on.

The camera is a wifi enabled that connects via the router, it can be connected buy a ethernet cable if required.
