I've moved into a rented house that has no living room door and both bathroom and kitchen doors will not close. also the upstairs doors wont shut due to new carpet landlord laid before I moved in. I've asked landlord (through agent) to sort out the problems but agent has said she is working on him! where to I stand with having no living room door and also not one door that will close?

Hmmm, I'm not sure. Was the property like this when you originally viewed it? I suppose the good news is that if the LL has recently laid some new carpet then it appears they do spend money on the property.
Could it be argued that the property is unsafe due to doors missing and not closing properly as in the event of a fire it would be able to spread quicker than if the doors were shut? I don't know, I'm just floating the idea.
Did you report this issue to the LA in writing? If not then it might be prudent to follow up the phone conversation with a letter.0 -
Your LL can get 'rising hinges' for doors where the new carpet is deeper than the old one. I have these on my spare bedroom.
A friend of mine fitted them for me, so I'm not sure how much it would cost to get them fitted, but the hinges themselves were not much.

when I viewed the house it was a dump! the previous tenants had not looked after it but for the area I had a good rental price.
There was no door on the living room when I viewed but the door I and agent thought was the living room door was against wall in kitchen, it turns out that door was for under the stairs.. so I have no door for living room and don't see why I should pay for one.
The other doors may need just new hinges to solve problem but I still need someone to fit them. The agent sent carpenter out and he gave a quote for £800 which was taking the !!!!! since then I have had 2 different quotes £500 and the lowest £250
Apparently 3 doors need replacing out of the 6, plus hinges, handles and then cost of labour!0 -

Presumably your LL should pay for this.
When you went to visit the flat and it was a mess, what was said about it? Were you led to expect it would be sorted out before you moved in?0
