First time renting need advice please

Hi hoping to get some advice please.

Bit of background about me because this is what I'm worried about when trying to rent for the first time.

I'm 42 and maintained a mortgage without any problem up until 2008 until my marriage broke down and ex refused to help with payments, this resulted in arrears which were ongoing until the property was eventually sold in 2010 (all settled with mortgage company now though). So there's I believe is my first problem, bad credit rating.

When my marital home was sold I went to live with my new partner in his house, this relationship has recently ended and i am now back living with my parents.

I am not currently working and don't start my new job until the end of june, I don't claim benefits . However I do have some savings.

So I guess I'm asking is there anything I can do to maximise my chances of renting I'm thinking with bad credit, no references from prior LL's as never rented, and no job till june I'm not going to be looked at favourably when trying to rent.

I can however afford to offer 6 months upfront rent would this make a difference?

Just feeling pretty low at the moment about the whole situation :(

Some LL's might be happy to accept you with a 6 month advance payment, especially as you are over 40 & thus considered more reliable & grounded than a young person might be. It will help that you have savings too as it will show that you do have finances available to you to support yourself.

Would your parents be willing to stand as guarantor's for you, only this is something else that could make you more appealing to a LL?
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
