Company Car No Claims Bonus

For 23 years I have been a company car driver with a 5 different companies all without an accident - well done me!

Now I have dropped out of the rat race and work locally - I have bought my first car for over two decades, but insurance companies treat me a having no no claims bonus!

My last company of 8 years will not supply me with a letter confirming my accident free motoring whilst in their employ (just being difficult I guess) so I am aged 47 and being quoted double that of my 25 year old son!!

What can I do, I appreciate companies need proof of NCB but I am faced with a massive insurance bill

If they wont play ball then there isnt much you can do except keep trying different companies and especially a local broker.

You're NCD is what you get for paying for a policy for a year without a claim. If you've not had a policy in your name privately, you wouldn't have earned any NCD. Therefore your NCD years would be 0.

Some insurers may accept a letter if the car was insured for SDP purposes under a individual company car, but most will reject if on a fleet / commercial policy. If your employer won't provide proof of this, there isn't a lot you can do.
