my jsa advisor rings me up tuesday and ask me if i want to apply for toby cavery jobs so i said yes so i went for the interview at the jobcenter last thursday. there was loads of us there having quick interviews.
then on friday about 4pm my advisor said they liked me and now i have to go for 9 days training at the local town hall with other people and after the 9 days unpaid training i will get another interview with toby cavery.. .
i never new this when i agreed to to to the first interview
i had one of these types of interveiws 2 months ago.
i went on the course for the marks and spencers . i had a telephone interview passed that then had to go for group interview with over 20 people. i never passed that one but if i did then i would be exepcted to go for 3 weeks non paid training to just secure another interview.
i rung my advisor today and i have to go see him friday and fill some forms but im scared to fill them out because im going to get stopped money all because i did not know i would have to go 9 days training to work in a kitchen.
i have a hosiptal appointment on tuesday and i told my advisore weeks ago i was expecting to go in hosiptal any week now.
now it looks like hes trying to sancton me for this.
any help please

Why do you think you are going to be sanctioned?
Take your hospital letter with you when you go to sign the forms agreeing to the training to show the Advisor you have a hospital appointment on Tuesday and do the training (obviously you can't for the day you have an appointment at the hospital or if you are admitted).
It may lead to a permanent job if the training goes well and you are selected.Think of all the beauty still left around you and be happy - Anne Frank :A0 -
because he said i will need to fill some forms in on why i did not attend.
i really thought i had a job but 9 days training in some small room to learn how to wash up in a kitchen in the toby cavery unpaid is stupid.
all i get out of it is another interview. why not interview me again.0 -
So you didn't attend the training?
I've no experience of the best thing to put on the forms in this circumstance, someone else will probably know the best thing to do.Think of all the beauty still left around you and be happy - Anne Frank :A0 -

That is your assumption that this is what the training is about. I expect there is a lot more to it, health and safety, customer care etc... Most likely, they have accepted to consider candidates who currently don't have all the skills required for the job and therefore who would never have been recruited in the first place, but who seem to have potential to reach the expected level of skill and understanding after 9 days training.
It is your negative attitude that is holding you back.0 -
I think you are very likely to be sanctioned, you have no good excuse, surely 9 days of unpaid training and still getting your JSA isn't a problem if it leads to a job?"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

we all know the goverment are paying these companys to seem to be doing something.

You are being paid jsa for doing nothing. So 9 days training while still being paid jsa seems fair to me!0 -
Actually, what you would be learning is about food safety and hygiene - essential for ANYONE working in a kitchen, or where food is prepared. You would also obtain a qualification to add to your CV which would make you more employable!0

I do agree if you ended up getting a Food Hygiene Certificate as a result of the 9 days training this would have been a big plus for you even if you didn't get that job, it would have made you more employable in the future. Food Hygiene Certificates are compulsory for food handling and employers can't employ you without one in a commercial kitchen. You can't even prepare and sell food at a Fete for public consumption without one, even if it's a fund raiser event and you are a volunteer.
Unfortunately the way things are, even if the course or training you are sent on or expected to attend by the DWP (as was the case with my son even if it is a waste of time) you still have to go otherwise you get sanctioned. He was wise enough to know this, moaned a bit at home in the evenings about the course as it was CV building and he had an excellent CV, but he took what he could from it and helped others on the course with their CV's.
He is now in work, albeit temporary but hopefully it will lead to permanent employment.
You can try mitigating circumstances because of a hospital appointment but I think you need to take the attitude that you really wanted to do this training with your Adviser and sorry for the misunderstanding etc. and you had the hospital appointment (if you have the evidence) That might possibly work this time if you get lucky with them.Think of all the beauty still left around you and be happy - Anne Frank :A0 -
i was on the understanding that it was a proper interview for a job. not 9 days sitting in a small office with over 20 other people then at the end of it have another interview.
i have been on seetec ingeus a4e results and im getting fed up with being treated like this.
i get dla i have learning dificulties the last thing i want to do is sit in a room where i find it hard to take everything in. i even went to a special schools.0
