Purchase of property fell through as seller wants more money

Hi
I'm not sure what my rights are. But I was due to exchange and complete tomorrow, and yesterday the estate agent rang to say the seller wants more money.
The mortgage was settled at a price affordable for us and we could not afford anymore. I signed the contracts 2 weeks prior thinking the exchange had taken place. The solicitor has not helped in any way. I just want to know if I am entitled to claim any losses incurred back as the seller has changed the agreement?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

None there is no agreement til exchange.
Best thing is to hold your nerve and see if the seller decides to go ahead at the agreed price rather than start again. I'd be getting solicitor to. Enquire if sale is still going ahead at previously agreed price before giving up.
The seller may want more money ......but equally they may just be trying it on and won't want to go back to marketing the property and waiting for the new deal to crawl through the legal process.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Ask your Solicitor to remind the seller via his/her solicitor that all mortgage applications will now go through the new MMR and it will take months to sell to someone else !!!!
Unless house prices are going mad where you live!0 -
Who is the estate agent? Is it Foxtons? They are famous for doing this all the time. On the last day they demand more money either by saying that they have a higher offer or that the seller wants more. You should teach these b***** s a lesson by walking away. But then it is such a pain to start all over again. How much more are they asking?0
