oh great another royal mail strike
you know how, normally, the beginning of a new month = ebay goldmine?
has anyone else found that, this last week or so, ebay trade is totally dead?
i think it's the postal strike last week that's making people think 'hmm i won't bother', what do you think?
normally do really well at this time of the month, haven't done anything different to normal so i 'm blaming royal mail, lol

Definitely - I need something before I go on holiday but will not chance it with the mail as it is, trying to get over last strike and threatening another! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Much as I was frustrated by the Royal mail strike I can't honestly say it affected my sales at all. I did add a note to my despatch note to say items might be delayed, and I have received glowing feedback so far (and have gone up 0.2 on my postage star) for quick delivery despite RM problems.
If the next strike is for two days that might start to bite, but I'll wait and see.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. To be honest I think a day strike here and there is of no consequence and I wouldn't bear it in mind if I was a buyer. If a day's strike wasn't publicised I doubt most non-business consumers would even realised it happened - the times when the postman came every day (and sometimes twice a day) are long gone.
Wandering slightly, it makes you wonder what good a 24 hour strike can do for the workers/union if people don't even notice it. Just costs a day's pay. I'd imagine the business community hardly rely on RM either, as payments are invoiced/electronic and then couriers are used in the majority of cases.0 -
This one may have more of an affect though as the walk out doesn't start until 1900 on Thursday, so any post sent on Thursday won't be sorted until 1900 Friday at the earliest and certainly not delivered until Saturday at the earliest. Not good.0

Does one day really make all that much of a difference? Erm, no, not really.
Fuss about nothing - both as a Buyer and as a Seller.0 -

i have had some good sales this month....with hight % of sales to listings....
it could be the interest rate rise kicking in... or just seasonal trend... as people are going away on holidays... the weather ?
but i dont think the one day royal mails strike will be a big factor in low sales at the mo....
also with us personally we are not spending as much as i am trying to hold back some pennies ready for the school summer holidays... as my food budget goes out the window.. with the kids home for 6 weeks..... strange how they apetites seems to explode at this time ....lol.....Work to live= not live to work0 -

Yes, i agree - school holidays are coming. people will have other things to spend money on - so unless you sell school uniform or things for holidays it'll be pretty much next to useless.
I think the RM strike will only have the effect on people wanting things NOW. Foe example someone mailed me on Thursday asking if they bought would they have it for Monday - I said no because of the strike and I lost the sale but she would have had to go to the high street to buy anyhow at that short a notice with the strike on.
Do RM ever deliver within the day now anyway?? Bloody unions. Think they can screw the country for all thse people but hey - THEY are still getting paid so stuff everyone else. They do not give a toss as they are on their 40-50k pa salaries, they just like the inconvenience of screwing the employer and the general public!! Don't get me started on the unions!! My husbands place of work offered a % increase and the union said no, not good enough, they wanted this that and the other else they would have a 2 day strike which would have affected 4 days business where he worked. The difference was something like £2 a week more that they wanted from what they were offered. Really, was it worth it? I think not!! I think they got in the middle and got an extra £1. Great after tax that must have bought an extra pint of milk each week. These people think they can demand this that and the other and then close a company down and affect their profits if they are not getting their own way. Surely if you are not happy with the wage you are getting you go off and look for something else that pays more!!0 -
i think the main union reps.. do not get any where near the figure you quoted..... its not only wages that unions watch over.. its also making sure the3 company adheres to health and safety etc..... also when my father and a major accident going back 25 years ago... the union paid for top barristers to fight his case.. before the days of where theres a blain there's a claim thing.... no way in a million years could he ever afford that type of help.. etc....
i might be wrong here so please some one correct me ... but didnt maggie thatcher put a stop to the unions ... what i mean is she took a lot of the power away etc ...( hope you know what i mean )
i think these strikes by r.m. are becuase the way that they want to re-structure the service that the workers will in effect will have to work/cover for the reduntancies and this will work out that they are worse off... and it will work out more work for them....
but straying off the thread now..... i still think that the R.M. strikes will not hit ebay sales hard..Work to live= not live to work0 -
this next strike wont effect me as i am listing very little these days compared to on the last strike, but i must add one of my items (sent 28/06) before the last strike still hasnt arrived ~ its ok its covered but its just really annoying :mad:0
